
Sun-Min Shim performs Halo in Seoul
Sun-Min Shim is often described as “a unique performer who creates elegant and colorful sounds with warm, delicate vibes.” She has garnered significant attention in the European music scene, having swept awards at both domestic and international competitions.
She won First Prize in the solo category and the Grand Prize overall at the 5th International Modern Music Competition in Poland, Third Prize at the 5th Stuttgart World Marimba Competition, and the Grand Prize at the 2010 Experimental Sound, Art & Performance Festival in Japan.
Shim has performed as a soloist in more than 20 countries and continues to receive invitations to major music festivals around the world. Her international appearances include performances in China, Germany, Japan, Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay, among others.
She frequently collaborates with international orchestras such as the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Cottbus Philharmonic, as well as numerous regional orchestras in Korea, including the Changwon Philharmonic, Daegu Philharmonic, Gangnam Symphony, Gunsan Philharmonic, Gyeonggi Philharmonic, Jeju Philharmonic, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Korean Symphony Orchestra, Wonju Philharmonic, and the Yangju City Philharmonic.
A passionate advocate for chamber and contemporary music, Shim founded the Seoul Modern Ensemble in 2012. She plays a leading role in shaping the modern music landscape through close collaboration with composers in Korea and abroad.
Percussionist Sun-Min Shim stands at the forefront of the classical music world as Chair of the Department of Music at Kangwon National University, Music Director of the Seoul Modern Ensemble, Artistic Director of the Balken Percussion Ensemble, a Kolberg Percussion Artist, and a juror for international music competitions.
