ALFA DUO & FRIENDS

“…the mallets fly virtuously when Fabian Homar and Aleksandar Georgiev stand before their marimbas and captivate the audience with rhythmically precise yet emotionally subtle music.” (OÖ Nachrichten, Dr. Michael Wruss) The program knows no bounds in terms of instrumentation or style: The two percussion professors expand their duo into a quintet with outstanding students from the Gustav Mahler Private University in Klagenfurt. “AlFa Duo & friends” combines classics of percussion literature with familiar melodies from pop, jazz, and rock, creating a concert experience that is as virtuosic as it is entertaining.

Alexander Georgiev has been a professor of percussion at the Gustav Mahler Private University in Klagenfurt since 2017 and has taught at numerous masterclasses and workshops, including at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the Ossiach Abbey Music Days. He has performed with artists such as Martin Grubinger and the Ferhan/Ferzan Önder piano duo at the Salzburg Festival, the Bremen Music Festival, and the Festival de Radio France Montpellier, as well as at the Tonhalle Zurich, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and Carnegie Hall in New York, sometimes with Yuja Wang.

Fabian Homar has been Professor of Orchestral Percussion at the Gustav Mahler Private University in Klagenfurt since 2019.
