In a lifelong attempt to transcend the inherent technical focus that underpins learning and performing percussion, composer John Psathas looks at approaches to writing for percussion that 'forget the instrument' - from the earliest stages of conceiving a new percussion work, to coaching rehearsals of the finished piece, to processing what did and didn't work in the writing.
