Kong Yu-Tzu performs Atalanta in Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Program Introduction
As I slowly unfold the timeline of my life, I ponder whether there is anything that can represent my true self, something that is both precious and meaningful.
In this concert, Yu-Tzu will use music as her most sincere language to present her authentic and natural self. Through playing her favorite pieces, she hopes to convey her inner emotions to the audience, thereby exploring the core essence of "who am I?" At the same time, she hopes that the audience can find resonance with themselves in the pulse of the music, feeling the reflection of emotions and a dialogue with their souls. In the first half , she will collaborate with percussionist Wu Hsin-Hsuan , who has studied in France , to perform a marimba xylophone duet, presenting two works with contrasting styles:
Bach 's " Fantasia and Fugue in A minor, BWV 944 " has been adapted into a marimba duet version, combining the rigorous structure of the Baroque period with the warm tone of the xylophone, giving the classic a new vitality.
Tomas Golińsk 's " Flow ,"
created during the global pandemic , reflects humanity's continuous progress on the path to the unknown.
In the second half , we will join hands with pianist Professor Weng Chonghua , who is frequently invited to perform and collaborate with musicians both at home and abroad , to present a wonderful dialogue between contemporary percussion and piano:
John Psathas 's " Atalanta " is a work by the internationally acclaimed New Zealand composer, known for his unique rhythmic vocabulary. His works combine glockenspiel, piano, and digital music to create a dynamic and layered sonic world.
Sejourne Emmanuel 's " Famim 2 " is a classic percussion masterpiece that showcases a rich and varied sonic texture through the combination of diverse percussion instruments and piano.
In addition, this concert also features three newly composed pieces by Chinese artists:
The xylophone solo "The Moment of Existence" by composer Chen Ting-Chuan is a piece of music that uses images pieced together from countless memories, recollections, and expectations in life .
• Composer Lu Huanwei ’s comprehensive percussion solo work “Mountain, Sea, Rain, Harbor” was tailor-made for this performance, showcasing the diverse facets and timbre possibilities of percussion.
Composer Dai Jianyu 's xylophone concerto "Blue Sky" leads the audience to feel the vitality and beauty of life through surging musical ideas and vivid sound layers.
