The winter and spring season of the concert series “Music Evenings at the Kurhaus” will be finalized by the exotic international project “Interzones” by the most famous Lithuanian percussionist Pavel Günter. Three talented percussionists will meet in the Kurhaus concert hall – Pavel Günter (percussion, Lithuania), Sigitas Gailius (percussion, Lithuania), Guntars Freibergs (percussion, Latvia), who will invite the audience to a breathtaking musical experience. The concert will break all stereotypes about percussion instruments and reveal their many different faces – from the gentle timbre of the marimba to the mysterious sound of the vibraphone and a variety of other rhythmic sounds.

The concert will feature works of various styles – mostly contemporary compositions that reveal a wide range of percussion possibilities. The program will begin with Serbian composer Nebojša Jovan Živković’s “Trio per uno”, a piece for three performers playing one percussion instrument, which has become a classic of contemporary percussion music. This is not only a performance full of sounds, but also of intensity, in which strength and rhythmic tension create a kind of theater. Next will be Avner Dorman’s piece “Udacrep Akubrad” with a playful anagram of the words “Percadu – Darbuka”, under which the essence of the piece is hidden: a synthesis of oriental rhythms, improvisational inserts and contemporary structures. Estonian composer Arvo Pärt’s “Fratres”, arranged for percussion, will contrast with the fiery rhythms. Meditative, bright and sacred music in the context of percussion will acquire a new subtle but suggestive sound. From silence to expression, New Zealand composer John Psath's "Atalanta" will take you further, inspired by Greek mythology. The composer combines the structure of classical music, the energy of rock and ethnic rhythms into a dynamic, emotional and virtuosic sonic journey. Gene Koshinski's "Drum Dances" will invite you to dance with sounds - rhythmic fantasies, each section of which has its own mood and technical playfulness. The work is full of life, from archaic, tribal rhythms to modern percussion passages. One of the most prominent works in the percussion repertoire - the Vibraphone Concerto (Part I) by French composer Emmanuel Séjourné - will appear in a new light. Even without an orchestra, this opus captivates with its soft, jazz-infused vibraphone sound, emotional expression and clear melodic narrative. To end the evening, another E, Séjourné gem, "Losa" - one of the most popular contemporary pieces for marimba and percussion. It intertwines classics and jazz, subtlety and virtuosity.

This concert is a great opportunity to rediscover how diverse and interesting percussion music can be. You don't have to be a professional music expert here - curiosity and a desire to experience something new are enough. The program will be full of dynamics and unexpected moments, and the performers themselves will captivate you not only with their sound, but also with their visual energy. This concert is the last chord of the spring season, but "Music Evenings at the Kurhaus" will return in the fall with even more exceptional musical experiences and unexpected discoveries.
